Sonia Kay Hovey
Sonia Kay Hovey died peacefully in her sleep on February 1, 2018 after a brief struggle with influenza. Ron Hovey, her husband of 39 years, was by her side. Born on November 15, 1958, Sonia was the daughter of Leon and Kay Curtis, and grew up in Roy, Utah.
At a young age Sonia had a love for fashion and sewing. She developed her talents as a seamstress by sewing many of her clothes in High School, and continued to use her talents by designing and sewing many dance and wedding dresses for her daughters. She was a classy lady who had a keen eye for fashion.
Sonia married her sweetheart Ronald C. Hovey in the Salt Lake Temple on December 27, 1979. They spent most of their lives living in Kaysville, Utah, where they raised four children. She devoted her life to raising and loving her family Sonia worked for 20 years at the Davis School District as the interpreter coordinator for the Deaf.
Sonia loved to travel. She and Ron have spent the past several years traveling throughout the World. She had a special place in her heart for English culture and history, and shared this love with her family, including a yearly tea party with the grandchildren. Sonia had a gift of making all who she talked to feel loved, important, and as though she was their best friend. She loved all things chocolate. But her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
Sonia was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings. Most recently she served as a Mia Maid advisor.
Sonia is survived by her husband, four children, Brooke Stone (Jarum), Megan Tarbet (Nick), TJ (Jenica), and Michelle Smoot (Marcus), 12 grandchildren, father, and her sister Becky Larsen. She was preceded in death by her mother.
The family is so grateful for the love, support, and prayers that have been offered.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville Utah LDS Stake Center, 615 N. Flint Street, Kaysville, UT. Friends may visit family Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
