Spc. Thomas Blakely (Blake) Nelson
Fort Carson, Colorado - Spc. Thomas Blakley (Blake) Nelson, 27, passed away on Thursday January 8th while serving in the US Army at Fort Carson, Colorado.
Blake was born on December 10, 1981 to Kiele Lightfoot and Ronald Moore. His Father passed away when he was two years old. His mother fell in love with and married Kevin Nelson. Kevin adopted Blake and his brother Mitch and raised them as his own.
Blake was raised in South Ogden. He attended Marlon Hills Elementary, South Ogden Jr. High, and Bonneville High School.
He loved the outdoors, fly fishing, camping, hiking, and snowboarding. He enjoyed the summer trips to Lake Powell and wave running. Blake was an avid reader and would much rather pick up a good book than play a video game. He had a charismatic personality and made friends wherever he went. A chance taker and pushing the envelope in everything he did, Blake loved life and all it had to offer.
On June 26th 2003 Blake became the proud father of his son, Karson. He was the light of Blake''s life.
In 2005 Blake joined the United States Army. He served with all the enthusiasm and energy that he had devoted to earlier pursuits. He Loved the Army and all of the challenges it provided. Blake was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 61st Calvalry Regiment, 4th ID, Bravo Troop. He served in Iraq from 2006 to 2007. At the time of his death he was training for deployment to Afghanistan. He was a proud, dedicated, and faithful soldier and will be greatly missed by those he served with.
Blake is survived and will be deeply missed by his son Karson Mitchell Nelson; parents, Kevin and Kiele Nelson, South Ogden; one sister, Ashley Nelson, South Ogden; Grandparents, Richard (Barbara) Nelson, South Ogden; Thomas (Marlene) Lightfoot, Riverdale; Special friend and mother of his son, April (Jason) Linkous; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother Mitch Nelson, his father Ronald Moore, his maternal Grandmother Eulalie Lightfoot, special Great-grandparents, Alma and Florence Cantwell.
Kevin, Kiele, Ashley and Karson would like to thank their family and many friends and neighbors for all the prayers, love and support during this most difficult time.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 17th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road. Family and friends may call at the mortuary Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd where Military honors will be accorded.
