Spencer Lovell Hovey, 87, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013.
He was born January 19, 1926 in Logan, Utah the son of Grant and Bernice Davis Hovey. He was the oldest of four children.
Spencer married Hortence Lemmon on October 2, 1948 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on June 9, 1959.
He served in the U.S. Navy So. Pacific from January 1944 to January 1947. He retired from Hill Air Force Base.
Spencer was an active member of the LDS Church and served several missions with his wife Hortence. He was active in the community and was a member of the JC''s.
Spencer loved to be surrounded by his family and his friends. His joys in life were his children and grandchildren. He loved to fish, cook, make jerky, salami and smoke fish. Spencer also loved camping, hunting, watching Lawrence Welk, cowboy movies and football on TV. We will miss him, his dry wit, sense of humor, and smiling face.
Surviving are his three sons, Sam (Gale) Hovey, Michael (Janet), Chadd (Patty), daughter Carol Crane, 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters and a brother, Marge Chatterton, Geraldine Jessop and Ronald Hovey.
Preceded in death by his wife Hortence, daughter JoAnna Hovey, and son-in-law, Randy Crane.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Logan City Cemetery where military honors will be accorded at 3 p.m.
