Stanley William Hadden
July 7, 1929 ~ April 28, 2019
Stanley William Hadden was born on July 7, 1929 to William and Hannah Lillian Hadden in Detroit, Michigan. At the age of 5, with his mother and sister, they departed for Birmingham, England, for the next 12 years. During this time period he survived the WWII German blitz, being bombed on a nearly nightly basis for five years. Before leaving England, he was training in the Royal Naval Reserve with the rank of Leading Seaman.
Upon his return to America, Stan graduated from Estes Park High School in Colorado. A few years later enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years, becoming a Korean War Veteran. Following basic training he graduated as a land, topographic and construction surveyor from the U.S. Army Engineer School at Ft. Belvoir Virginia. It was during his enlistment, while stationed at Hill AFB, that he met and married Donna Charlene Warner of Ogden. With his love Donna by his side, they raised three great children, Shonna Lynn (Joe) Sondrup of Roy, Jeffrey Stewart (Jeni) Hadden of Plain City, and Kelly Ann (Michael) Henderson of Farmington. Donna and Stan were blessed with ten wonderful grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Following his honorable discharge, he was employed as a surveyor with the Bureau of Reclamation; he then transferred to the Civil Engineering Division at Hill AFB and later to the Engineering Section of the Directorate of Distribution. During his career he designed and installed many projects. One of the projects, of which he was very proud, was the Hill AFB Hubbard Golf Course.
Stan also strongly believed in serving others. He served his nation in the Armed Forces, Weber County as the River Keeper for several years, his Riverdale Community as both member and chairman of the Planning Commission, the Board of Adjustments, the Landscape Improvement Committee, and as Councilor and Mayor Pro-temp. In the past he also served as co-chairman of the Hill AFB Native American Program, American Legion Post Commander and District Commander, District Commissioner Boy Scouts of America, Board of Trustees member and President of the Weber Mosquito Abatement District.
He loved people, his family, acquaintances, fellow workers, his Native American brothers and sisters, people of all races and kinds. All were equal in his sight.
