Stanley B Simonsen

Stanley B. Simonsen, (USAF MSgt, ret) born November 10, 1931 and a true patriot would have loved that the sun rose on a sea of American Flags on the day that he passed away, Labor Day, September 5, 2011 at Davis Hospital in Layton, Utah.

Born in Emery, Utah, the son of Merville and Zola Simonsen, Dad spent his childhood working hard and playing harder with his three brothers and four sisters. The stories he could tell! He left home at an early age to join the US Air Force where he proudly served until his retirement in 1971 as a Flight Engineer. Dad served a tour in Pleiku, Vietnam. He was a past Commander and lifetime member of the Layton VFW Post 8307.

Early in his military career he met and married his "little bride," Bettie Jo Todd (Peggy), on November 3, 1951. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. Together they raised their family while traveling this country and overseas. Their children are Vicki (Rod) Sanders of Layton, UT; Ken Simonsen of Rigby, ID; and Don Simonsen of Layton, UT.

Stan was a wonderful husband and father and never met a person who didn''t just love him. He had a sense of humor that never left him even as he lay in the hospital struggling for every breath. He suffered the ravages of COPD for four years before finally giving up his battle. He will forever be remembered and forever be loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife and children, seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a brother (Scott), and a sister (Patsy Kay), and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters and a grandson.

Friends may visit with family on Thursday, September 8, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. As he wanted, Dad will be cremated.

Many thanks to Dr. Gary Alexander and his wonderful assistant Marla who cared for and loved Dad for so many years. Also thanks to the amazing doctors and staff at the Davis Hospital ICU and Telemetry Wards for being so kind and tender with OUR favorite patient.
