Stanley "Stan" Perry

Stanley “Stan” Henry Perry

June 15, 1919 ~ March 7, 2014

Stanley “Stan” Henry Perry passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014, at the age of 94.

Stan was born in New Mexico on June 15, 1919, to Annie Cowan and George Wesley Perry.  While still a toddler, the family moved to California – the place where Stan would meet his future bride, Gail Burgoon. They were married in 1941.

He was a WWII veteran who served honorably in France. After the war, he and Gail moved to Juneau, Alaska, where Stan became known and loved for his strength, grit, and sense of humor. He served others and made a living by driving cab; starting a glacier ice business, where he gained the nickname “Ice Man”; buying and operating the Spudnut Shop; and working as a welder and master mechanic on the trans-Alaska crude oil pipeline – the job from which he would retire. Stan and Gail had two children together, Christina Lynn and Deborah Ann, before divorcing.

Stan married Mona Martin in 1964 and became father to her four children, Julie, Paul, James, and Rena. Stan and Mona would later move to Utah where Stan joined the LDS church in 1977. They spent their days volunteering in the Ogden LDS Temple and serving their local community. Stan is fondly remembered for his generosity in providing delicious homemade soup for the widows in his area, earning him the title of “the Soup Man.” At one point, he was making soup for about 40 widows and had to recruit help in order to deliver it all each week.

Stan is survived by his children Christina, Deborah, Julie, and Rena. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mona; his sons, James and Paul; his brothers, Adrian, Stuart, and Harold; and his sisters, Patricia and Mary.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Riverdale 4th Ward, 5500 South 1175 West.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Logan City Cemetery.
