Stella Mary Packard

March 3, 1940 ~ January 13, 2018

Stella Mary Packard, 77, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, January 13, 2018. She was born on March 3, 1940 in Kent, Sussex, England, one of two children, to her mother, Violet Beatrice and father, Alfred George Hooker. She moved to Ogden, Utah at the age of 17 where she attended Weber State College.

She later married Dean Edward Carlsen in 1960. They were the parents of three children, Kent Edward, Glen Jenner, and Cheri Lynn Carlsen. Stella and Dean Carlsen later divorced. She married Dr. Dean Wilson Packard in 1973. During their 36 years of marriage they traveled the world extensively, cherishing good times and memories with friends and family.

Stella’s interests also included cooking, reading, and bird watching, but most of all she especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Stella is survived by her son, Glen Carlsen and Dean’s children, Diane (Dan) Glover, Paul (Karen) Packard, Marilyn (Jon) Beckstead, Tom (Richelle) Packard, and Karen (Joe) Alexander; and all of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, June Pattison; son, Kent; and daughter, Cheri.

Stella remained close with her extended family connections in England, particularly her sister’s children, Graham and Nigel.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday evening, January 19, 2018, at 7 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

The family expresses special thanks to Intermountain Hospice and Mt. Ogden Skilled Nursing for their kind support and loving care of Mother. We couldn't have asked for more.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to “The Christmas Box” or “Intermountain Therapy Dogs.”
