Stephanie Lynn Christensen

August 3, 1960 – December 7, 2017

Stephanie Lynn Christensen, born August 3rd, 1960, left this earth, December 7th, 2017.

She was the youngest child of Dale Elling and Joyce Maxine Christensen.  She joined her brother Dennis Elling and sister, Debra Jean.  She was born in Fort Lewis Washington, where her father was stationed in the Air Force as a flight engineer.  A year later they were able to return to Utah, her parent’s home state, when Dale was stationed at Hill Air Force Base.  Stephanie spent the remainder of her life here in Utah.

Stephanie and her brother and sister lost their father in 1970 when he was killed in Vietnam.  Stephanie was only 10 and the loss of their father was devastating for this young family.  For Stephanie, its impact forged a very strong bond with her mother.

Stephanie studied at Eagle Gate College to become a phlebotomist.  However her lifelong battle with anorexia and the resulting fragile health never allowed her to go on and pursue this career.

One of the highlights of her life was when her nephew, Jeff was born.  She played a major role in his young life as “Aunt Stevie” and they were inseparable.

Stephanie spent her life dedicated to her mom.  When Joyce’s health began to fail, Stephanie willingly took on the role of primary care giver, making sure her mother was well taken care of, and being her daily support system.  When her “momma” passed away in 2005, it took a toll on Stephanie. What helped her stay steady during this very difficult time was her church ward family and her friends at Skyline view apartments. But there are two people that were her ballast, Woody and Betty Whitlock.  They gave her strength when hers was flagging, they gave her love, and they were her strongest supporters. They became a part of her extended family.

Stephanie was preceded in death by her father, Dale Christensen, her mother Joyce Christensen, and her brother Dennis Christensen.  She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Isabel and O Dean Caldwell on her mother’s side, and Louise and Clyde Christensen, on her father’s side and her niece, Sarah Bergman Miller, Debra’s daughter.  She leaves behind her sister, Debra (and Kevan) Craythorn and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She is now in the loving arms of her father, mother and brother and we believe that she has found peace in their love.   We love you Stephanie and we will miss you.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Forest Hills Ward Chapel, 1589 E. Gentile St. Layton, Utah.  Friends may visit with family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
