“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal.”

LAYTON – Stephen Andrew Smith, 26, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016 in Layton Utah.

He was born October 7, 1989 in Oceanside, California, son of Richard Smith and Tracy Valeikas-Higgs, RN.  Stephen graduated from Layton High School.

Stephen enjoyed spending time with his family.  Some of the fondest memories of Stephen are being known as the sidekick to his eldest brother Rob, shopping and always trying to convince his brother for his very own Express Suit so he could look “fly,” when running errands, and traveling with Rob. Stephen enjoyed roller-blading, paint balling, and shooting hoops with his older brother Dustin; listening to music and challenging his younger brother Matt on different gaming consoles, and taking him to Boondocks.

Stephen loved being an uncle to his nieces and nephews, Shyla, Brock, Zoey, Rylen, and Zane. Stephen lived a very active life.  He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, camping, golfing, cooking, gardening/yard-work, barbequing, and snowboarding.  Stephen liked to play sports with friends; and looked forward to watching “Dr. Who.”  But best of all, he enjoyed having conversations with his family and friends. Stephen had unconditional love for all; he had a big heart that was larger than life and always enjoyed helping others, always putting other’s needs before his own.

Stephen is survived by:  Father, Richard Smith (Sunday), Mother, Tracy Higgs, (Steve) Brothers, Rob D. Smith, Dustin Smith (Cammie), Matt Higgs, Anthony Martinez, James Martinez (Erica),  Chris Adams, Sisters,  Amanda Polo (Freddy),  and Ashley Higgs.  Stephen is also survived by: his loving Grandpa Gene, many aunts and uncles, several cuzins and friends.

Preceded in death by his uncles, Gene Valeikas, Michael Higgs, grandfather Jimmy Smith, grandmother Sharon Higgs, cousin Shane Sande, and grandmother Nancy L. Rogers.

Friends may visit family on Friday, February 26, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road in Layton, Utah.
