Stephen Matthew Holt
Stephen Matthew Holt was born in Ogden, Utah on March 10, 1938 to Matthew Stoker Holt and Rachel Gertrude Smedley. He was an only child until 8 years of age when his sister, Shauna was born.
He spent his early childhood in Clearfield, Utah before moving to Bountiful where he lived the rest of his life. He attended Davis County Schools and graduated from Davis High in 1956. He then attended the University of Utah and college in Southern California.
He married Kathleen Linford Holt in 1961. They are the parents of two children, Melissa Holt Gardner (Joel B) and Todd Stephen Holt (Jodi). He is survived by his wife, Kathy, his two children and their spouses, four grandchildren (Lauren Marapodi, Jameson Gardner, Cannon Gardner and Tyson Holt), a great grandson (Max Marapodi) and his sister Shauna Larson (Woody).
From an early age, Steve was an entrepreneur starting his first furniture business, Holt’s Fine Furnishing, at 25 years of age. He was involved in either the wholesale or retail furniture business all of his life both in Bountiful and Salt Lake. He served as President of the Utah Furniture Association was a member of Oakridge Country Club and was the recipient of many prestigious awards from the furniture industry. He was a quiet philanthropist.
He loved the outdoors his hobbies included spending times at the family cabin and sailing on the beautiful Bear Lake. He enjoyed traveling the world and studying the culture of each area he and Kathy visited. Not only did he love traveling but he loved staying at home. He delighted in watching nature from his deck, the deer parading in his backyard and watching the sunset’s ever changing colors. He loved art, plays, music and especially the Utah symphony.
He loved to be around his grandchildren and delighted in their achievements.
Steve was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Towards the end of his life, he was deeply interested in his pioneer ancestry and began gathering everything he could find about his family’s heritage. He is loved and will be very missed by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the North Salt Lake Hidden Lake Chapel, 4275 Bountiful Blvd., Bountiful, Utah. Friends may visit family Friday May 19th from 6-8 pm at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and Sat. May 19th from 10:00 – 10:45 am at the Church prior to services. Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.
