Stephen LaVell Knight, age 79, passed away on September 13, 2024, after a battle with pneumonia.
Steve was born on November 20, 1944, to Myron LaVell Knight and Claire Swenson Knight in Provo, Utah. He grew up in Bountiful, Utah and attended Stoker Elementary, Bountiful Jr. High and graduated from Bountiful High School in 1963. Steve met Sherrie Miner on a blind date, and they were married in Elko, Nevada on June 1, 1965. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary just a few months ago. Steve and Sherrie have three children – Kimberly, Michael, and Karen.
During the first years of marriage, Steve served in the U.S. Army in Arlington, Virginia, and was a member of the Old Guard. Following an honorable discharge, he worked hard as a car and diesel mechanic and in his spare time he loved to work on his beautiful antique cars. He loved listening to classical music, and everyone loved listening to him play the baritone and trumpet at family parties and when he performed as part of The English Brass Band. After retirement, Steve could frequently be found fishing at the Bountiful Pond or working on his prize-winning model ships or playing on a slot machine in Wendover. He was always kind and willing to help anyone, a lot of times without being asked. He was a man of his word – when he said he would do something, he would do it.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Claire, and his siblings, James, Janice, and Sheri. Steve is survived by his wife Sherrie, and his three children, Kimberly (Patrick) Volk, Michael (Josette) Knight, Karen (Jeremy) Reynolds, and his sister Connie. He is also survived by his four grandchildren – Ashlyn Knight, Kinley (Tad) Carter, Kayla, and PJ Reynolds, one great grandchild and one more on the way.
