Sterling Wayne Barnes

SUNSET - Sterling Wayne Barnes, 93 years young passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 1:20 a.m.

He was born September 18, 1924 in Evanston, Wyoming the son of Joseph and Pearl Hallett Barnes.

Sterling married Thelma Lucille Wade on March 19, 1942 in Preston, Idaho.

Sterling served in the United States Army Air Corp now the U.S. Air Force.  He was a highly decorated World War II Veteran due to his actions in saving the bomber from being shot down by a German fighter plane he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC).  He flew in a B24 Bomber.  They flew more missions than any other plane at that time. He later worked as an auto and truck mechanic working mostly for CH Dredge in Syracuse, UT and received many driving awards.

After several years Sterling bought his own truck and later became partners with his son Joseph in their own company SW Barnes and Son Trucking until he retired to take care of his wife Thelma Lucille Wade Barnes who preceded him in death in March of 2000.

Surviving are children, Joseph W. (Donna) Barnes, So. Weber; Bruce E. (Jolynne) Barnes, West Haven; Maryellen (Norm) Tuttle, Green River, WY; Nancy E. (Bill), Kelley, Sunset; daughter-in-law, Deborah Barnes, No. Ogden;  brother, Vernon Barnes, Arco, ID; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma and son James Sterling Barnes.

Graveside services will be held Friday, December 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, So, Ogden.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
