Sterling John Morris
July 3, 1936- June 9, 2016
Sterling John Morris passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 surrounded by his wife and children at the age of 79. He was born in Basalt, Idaho on July 3, 1936 to John Robert Morris and Gertrude Almina Kotter.
Sterling graduated from “”Not Second, but Firth” High School. He then attended Rick’s College. At the age of 21 he entered the mission field to serve in the East Central States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Once he returned home, he attended Utah State University where he graduated with his Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Music Education. During this time he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Ricks in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. It was love from the first moment. They settled in Roy, Utah and had four wonderful children. They recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.
His professional life was spent serving others. Sterling taught choir at Roy High School for 29 years while also partnering with Dayne Williams building homes. After retiring from teaching, he continued to work with young people directing high school tours across the country. Sterling has touched the lives of countless people.
Sterling was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including bishop, high councilor, high priest group leader, and stake mission leader. He and his wife Barb served as guest service missionaries at the Salt Lake Conference Center.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ricks and children, John (Kimberly) Morris, Scott (Kris) Morris, Susan (Ted) Smith and Nichole (Troy) Halliday and 18 grandkids and six great grandkids. Also surviving are his siblings, John D. (Sandy) Morris and Carolyn (Larry) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Delar (Joyce) Morris, Garth Morris and two grandsons Curtis Morris and McKay Smith.

Funeral Services will held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Cedar Crest Ward 3845 S. 2000 W. Roy, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday June 15, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S and Thursday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services, at the church.
Interment, Roy City Cemetery.
