Steven Vern “Casey” Sawyer, 68, a long-time Salt Lake City resident, passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2024, of natural causes. He was the second son of Clifton and Donna Gay (Allen) Sawyer, born in Ogden, Utah on April 24, 1955. He was raised and schooled in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School Class of 1973.
He was an incredible computer technician and a real genius. He could play many musical instruments and particularly enjoyed the piano and accordion.
Steven earned his nickname “Casey” because of his ability to knit and crochet meticulously. Casey also enjoyed baking, candy making, cooking, woodworking, bodybuilding, and so many more things. He was a real renaissance man and if he didn’t know how to do something he would figure it out in a matter of minutes. Casey was also fluent in sign language.
He had a successful career in the telecommunications industry, but he was very humble about his accomplishments.
Casey will be remembered for being blunt and honest, funny beyond description, creative and highly intelligent, and for having so much love to give.
We love you and we miss you – you left us too soon.
Casey is survived by his father, Clifton (Kerry) Sawyer, Ogden; sister, Kathie (Roger) Alexander, Hooper; brother, Timothy “Tim” (Teri) Sawyer, Pleasant View; sisters, Mary (Paul) Wakefield, Plain City, Lauri Carter, Ogden, and Tammy Langston,
Riverdale; sister-in-law, Karen Sawyer, Roy; many nieces and nephews, and by his dear friends, including his domestic partner, Paul Braun, Salt Lake.
Casey was preceded in death by his mother; by his life partner, Aubrey James “Jim” Powell; by his brothers, Daniel and Clif Sawyer; and also by his fur-baby, Tucker Tu.
Per his wishes, private family services will be held following cremation in care of Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
