Steven E. Knudson
June 4, 1951 ~ March 7, 2018
Steve Knudson, the well-loved "C.N.G.", passed away peacefully at his home on March 7, 2018.
Steve was born on June 4, 1951 in Ogden, Utah, to Elden and Arlene Knudson.
A lifelong Ogden resident, Steve participated in a wide array of activities including Weber County Junior Posse, Ben Lomond High School Football, Beta Theta Pi Fraternity at Weber State University, softball, hunting, fishing, and golf. He also coached and volunteered for his children's various athletic teams. Throughout all of these activities, he made and maintained lifelong friends. His ability to do so is testament to his character, kindness, and general likeability. Steve always had a good story--or three--to share, and relished his time with friends, particularly on the golf course.
Steve graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1969, and then studied at Weber State University. He received his bachelor's degree in business administration-management from Weber State University in 1975, graduating summa cum laude. Steve served in the Army National Guard from 1971 through 1976, and intended to enroll in Officer Candidate School, until his father suffered a heart attack.
Due to his father's heart attack, Steve assumed operation of E.H. Knudson Construction in 1974. Steve's parents Elden and Arlene Knudson formed E.H. Knudson Construction in 1948, and it has remained a family company for 70 years. Steve ran the company while successfully completing his degree, and continued to serve as president of Knudson Construction until his death. He was joined at the business by his sister, Karol, and brother, Kevin "K.C.". The three worked together every day for over 45 years. Through their collective efforts the tight-knit, second-generation family business continues to thrive. Over the course of his career, Steve met and befriended numerous colleagues and employees. His honesty, integrity, and unassuming intelligence earned the respect of--and endeared him to--all who knew him.
In 1974, Steve met his future wife, Nancy Gianoli. Thus began a long distance, extended courtship: from Ogden to Ely, and from Ogden to Reno. Despite geographic distance and some initial hesitation on her part, Steve's charm won over both Nancy and her entire family. Steve and Nancy were married on October 1, 1983 in Ely, Nevada. Their daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" was born in December 1984, and their son Eric in March 1987. A devoted and supportive father, Steve imparted to both children his love of education, athletics, and dogs. Eric coined the nickname C.N.G. (Chubby Nice Guy) for his father, which Steve enthusiastically adopted and spread.
Steve maintained an active role in community, in addition to operating Knudson Construction. He served as President of the Ogden Engineers Club, on the board of St. Joseph Catholic High School, and as a trustee on the board of the Weber-Box Elder Conservation District. He supported St. Joe's athletics, and was member of the Weber State Wildcat Club for over 35 years. Steve could not go anywhere around Ogden without running into someone he knew. If he entered a room of strangers, Steve's open and gregarious disposition ensured he left with at least one new friend.
Steve is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Betsy; son, Eric; sister, Karol; and brother, K.C. (Michele). He was preceded in death by his mother, Arlene and father, Elden.
