Steven Richard Larkin, 73, of Clearfield, died unexpectedly early Saturday morning, September 28, 2013 at McKay-Dee Hospital following complications from a hip fracture.
Steve was the youngest of ten children born to John Hyrum and Eugenie Madsen Larkin, and arrived on May 5, 1940 in Brigham City, UT. He grew up in Willard, graduating from Box Elder High School, Class of 1958, and married Joanne Fairchild. After settling in Ogden, they had two sons, Alan and Rick. They later divorced.
Steve served in the military and was honorably discharged.
On April 5, 1972 Steve married Clara Delores "Dee" Shaw in Evanston, Wyoming. They settled in Clearfield and enjoyed nearly 38 years of marriage before Dee passed away on March 18, 2010.
Steve worked for many years at Hill Air Force Base as a Computer Technician before retiring. Afterward, he was a housing manager in Boise, Idaho for three years and then drove truck for Miller''s Meat Co. and gas tankers for Flying J. He was also a Davis Co. crossing guard.
He was exceptionally good at woodworking, which was his major hobby, but he also loved to fish and enjoyed boating. Steven was also a voracious reader, but preferred his shop or the outdoors, which is partly why enjoyed truck driving a" for the scenery and the time on the road to sort out his thoughts.
Steve was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was very generous and was ''one of a kind a" he was always right'' a" that''s to say he danced to his own tune. Although he could be ornery at times, no matter how much he complained, you always knew he loved you.
He is survived by his sons, Alan (Lovia) Larkin, Elko, NV; Richard "Rick" Larkin, Ogden; and by his step-children, Areta (Reed) Bingham, Syracuse; Vickie (Curt) Harris, North Ogden; and Randy (Colleen) Conley, San Jose, CA; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and by his sister, Norma Larkin Coleman, Harrisville, UT.
In addition to his wife, Dee, Steve''s brothers and sisters, Gerald, John Rulon, Carlyle, Vera, David, Rhoda, Louise, and Louis all preceded him in death.
The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of McKay-Dee Hospital for their tender care and kindness.
