Sumiko Sue Nakaishi passed away peacefully at her home on January 25, 2018 after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Sumiko Sue was born on August 24, 1929 in Magna, Utah to Shigeru Sam Matsumura and Ellen Misayo (Inouye) Matsumura. She grew up in Magna and Ogden. She graduated from Ogden High School and she received training in Costume Design ­­­­­in southern California. Sue married the love of her life, Jimmie Nakaishi on June 3, 1952 at the Ogden Buddhist Church.

Sue and Jimmie moved to various parts of the world due to Jimmie’s enlistment with the US Air Force; Georgia, New Mexico, Japan and South Dakota. Wherever they were stationed Sue made many good friends due to her upbeat spirit and friendliness. Sue also received her 4th degree certificate in Ikebana certificate in flower design while in Japan. Sue worked at Utah Noodle Parlor and for a medical group, again she was well loved for her ability to give to others. Sue was active in the Ogden Japanese Christian Church, at one-time teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, she assisted with many fellowship teas. Sue created many beautiful Bunka pictures, some that were awarded Blue Ribbons ,including the Utah State Fair Sweepstakes and she also made porcelain lace dolls that she treasured. Sue was a volunteer for 28 years at Heritage Park Care Center in Roy, UT. She received the Volunteer of the Year award in 2009 from the Utah Health Care Association.

Sue was the oldest of four children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Ets; and brother, Enji. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Jimmie; children, Drake (Kathy) Nakaishi, Wayne, PA; Richard (Lana) Nakaishi, Washougal, WA; and Kathy (Jim) Finnegan Leawood, KS; and her brother, Kay (Gerry) Matsumura of Layton, UT; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews that will greatly miss Auntie Sue. The family appreciated the help of Hearts of Hospice and especially their nurse, Kylie.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Ogden Christian Church.
