Sumio Serenus Nishikawa (Nish)
LAYTON a" Sumio Serenus Nishikawa, (Nish) was born February 29, 1948 in Salt Lake City and was preceded in death by parents Shigeru and Emily Nishikawa and his brother Don. He is the brother to Kiyoshi (Bonnie) and Nancy (Lyman). He graduated from West High School in 1967 and was drafted into the Army in 1969 to serve in the Vietnam War. In 1970 he married Patricia Ann Wadsworth and moved to Layton in 1972. Together they had one son, Payton. He is the pride and joy of their life and his fishing buddy until the end, even fishing together until the last week of his life.
Bowling and fly fishing were his passions. He bowled with a special group of people at Junction Bowling Lanes for over ten years. Rory, Scottie, Bob and Danny are just a few of the men he cherished spending the week nights with.
Nish''s other great passion was fly fishing. Almost every weekend he was out on the river, reeling in the big one. For 18 years he enjoyed fishing on the Madison and developed a great friendship with Mike and LeeAnn Daz, two people he loved dearly.
In high school Nish started working as a bus boy at The Pagoda Restaurant and spent the next 45 years with them; they were his second family. Fudge and Dora embraced him as if he were a son. Nish also worked most of his life as a parts salesman in various car dealerships and a special thanks to Layton Hills Dodge.
After divorcing Patricia, he met Shanna Assenberg and spent the next 25 years of his life with her. He is survived by her three children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his son Payton and wife Toby and their two children.
Nish is loved by all that met him and formed many close friendships throughout his lifetime.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 from noon to 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Cremation will follow.
