Susan Taylor Ridges Barrow
April 27, 1938 ~ June 4, 2019
On June 4, 2019, our angel Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, joined her sweetheart Clare, to celebrate their 61st Wedding Anniversary.
Susan Taylor Ridges was born April 27, 1938, to Lowell W. Ridges and Emily Taylor and was raised in Ogden with her sister Eleanor (David) Dickson and brother James (deceased) (Tressa Cahoon) Ridges. She graduated from Ogden High School, Weber State College and the University of Utah.
Susan married Clarence L. Barrow, June 6, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised five children, Cyndi (Randy) Halley, Janet (Kirk) Rawson, Craig (Kate) Barrow, Nancy (Larry) Collinwood, and Joel (Lisa) Barrow. Currently their posterity includes 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson. She was the last surviving member of Clare’s large family and was vital in keeping the family connected. Her family was her main focus and joy. She supported and loved all of us in everything we were doing.
Susan’s life embodied charity and ministering. She prioritized and stayed active and busy with everyone she loved. She cherished hosting family dinners each Sunday, weekly temple attendance, hair appointments, daily exercising, strumming with the O-Town Ukesters, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, socials with her lunch-bunch, seasoned sisters, and the Weber Waffies. She loved and treasured the lifelong friends she has made throughout the years.
Her exceptional talents have been shared her entire life. She was a beautiful seamstress and taught sewing and tailoring at Ogden High School and home economics at North Layton and Central Jr. High Schools, for 23 years. She used her gift of cooking to bless and serve many. Seeing the beauty in the world and adding to it through gardening was something she and dad shared. Faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many ward and stake callings. For more than 70 years, she shared her talent as an accomplished pianist and organist, currently serving in her ward and with the Aspen Care Relief Society.
