Susan Maria Bennett

July 13, 1966 – October 31, 2014

Susan Maria Bennett, 48, slipped suddenly, but peacefully from this life into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Friday, October 31, 2014 as she slept quietly at home.  Susan was born in Orlando, Florida to Leamon D Jones of Dunn, NC and Maria P Soler (Jones) of Madrid, Spain.  Shortly after her birth, their family moved to Torrejon, Spain where she spent her childhood, returning to the United States as a teenager.  While living in Torrejon, Spain, she met Michael Lewis Bennett, but it was not until they both had returned to the states that they reconnected, fell in love and were married in Dunn, NC in 1988. Mike and Susan traveled the world, living in Greece, Spain and South Korea as part of Mike’s work in the aerospace industry which suited Susan’s adventurous spirit well.  She embraced the culture wherever they lived and sought to take advantage of every opportunity and experience, even to the point of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane just for the fun of it while stationed in South Korea.  Stateside assignments had them moving about the country as well, living in Texas, Florida and ultimately Layton, Utah where they have lived for the past twelve years raising their son Matthew.

Susan’s talents were many and she continually strived to develop new ones.  She was a Red Cross trained volunteer Dental Assistant while living in South Korea, worked with the Children’s Program at The Heights Community Church in Ogden, UT, a multi-lingual airlines reservation agent for Jet Blue and most recently was attending the Davis Applied Technology College in the Nail Technician program where she studied with her new friends and classmates.

Susan is preceded in death by her father, Leamon D. Jones.  She is survived by her husband, Michael L. Bennett and son, Matthew Dearl Bennett of Layton, UT; her mother, Maria P. Soler (Jones) of Dunn, NC; her brother, Joseph Jones and wife Paula; and her three sisters, Connie Jones (Lanier) and husband Harold, Barbara Jones (Lawrence) and husband Bob and Donna Sue Jones all of Dunn, NC.

Arrangements are under the care of Cromartie Miller and Lee Funeral Home, 401 W. Cumberland Street, Dunn, NC.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 7 ^th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Funeral Services will be held at Westfield Baptist Church, 70 N Ashe Ave, Dunn, NC 28334 on Saturday, November 8 ^th at 11 AM with Susan’s nephew, Pastor Jeremy Autry Officiating.
