Susan Davis, aged 73, passed away on July 6, 2024, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born on July 13, 1950, Sue was a beloved member of her community and cherished by those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clark D. Davis and Helen Beebe Davis, and her husband Eugene Overby. Susan is survived by her brother, Jeffrey C. Davis. She leaves behind children, Angie Overby, Scott and Julie Overby, Tracy Overby, Cindy Dowd (Eric Baeder) 11 grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
Sue was a woman of incredible wit; generous with her smile and with the fruits of her many passions and talents – one of which was sewing, a skill she learned at a young age on her grandmother’s pedal sewing machine. It was here where she made dresses, quilts, handbags, baby blankets – gifts for friends, family and loved ones alike, all of whom were blessed with her keen eye for bright colors, beautiful fabrics and incredible handiwork. In the years that followed, sewing and knitting would become core to Sue’s social life; she loved the community around her annual knitting retreat, cherishing the friendships and travel it inspired. She was also an animal lover at heart, generously volunteering her time at Best Friends Animal Shelter for many years.
But the center of Sue’s creative universe orbited around her salon, where her steady hand, discipline, and strong work ethic earned her the reputation of being one of the finest stylists in her industry. Her friends and clients sought her out not only for her talents in hairdressing in this very space, but also for her warmth and unique perspective on life. To say she was a strong, influential woman is an understatement. She will be forever missed and lives on through the impressions she left on so many hearts.
Sue loved her home in Bountiful, but she always had a taste for adventure in far-flung places with those closest to her. She took a holiday in Rome, then sailed down the Rhine. She scuba dove colorful reefs in Grenada and soaked up the sun in Cancun. She took her first zipline ride in Costa Rica, then explored the rainforests of Peru via the Amazon River. She even crossed the arctic circle on her way to the fjords in Norway. She left very few parts of the map unseen, and all the while, collected yarn on many of these travels, from Morocco to Athens, Istanbul, Zurich, Prague, and beyond – for spinning into special gifts for the people she loved most. No matter the destination, Sue understood better than anyone that travel enriches us all, and that the full experience of the journey, near or far, was always best when shared.
Sue was a magnificent woman – the breadth of her journey in life could only be matched by her kindness and the deep connections she forged with those around her. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to be felt long after her passing.
