Susan Eccles Denkers

November 17, 1935 ~ October 23, 2017

Susan Eccles Denkers, 81, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017. She suffered from Pancreatic Cancer with strength and dignity for three years almost to the day.

She was born on November 17, 1935 in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Willard L. and Ruth Pierpont Eccles. She attended Polk Elementary, Central Middle School and her beloved Ogden High, graduated from Stephens College, Columbia, MO in 1955.

Susan was a founding member of the Willard L. Eccles Foundation and the Stephen G. and Susan E. Denkers Family Foundation.

Susan was very active in the Ogden community, she became of member of the Junior League of Ogden in April of 1960, where she served valiantly as the Charity Ball Chairman, Rummage Sale Chairman, Vice President from 1972 to 1973, and President from 1974 to 1975. Susan started “Sub for Santa” in Ogden. She was an active member of Junior League Sustainers of the Deseret-Indian Wells California. She was also a board member for the Salvation Army for 14 years, YWCA board member, and became President of YCC at its conception and served as President for 2 years and on the YCC committee in Ogden for 12 years. She was actively involved in the cause of Women’s and Children’s Health including Planned Parenthood, The Midtown Clinic and The Ogden School Foundation. Susan was involved in the Environment through the Nature Conservatory, as Utah Board Member, Ducks Unlimited, Ogden Nature Center and Weber Pathways.

What a life she lived…kind, friendly, generous, spirited, without pretention in any way…Susan was always her own person. She was quietly proud of her heritage, but the very first to shun public accolades and fanfare of any kind. Always with a twinkle in her eye, Susan loved to laugh and was remarkably good natured.

Susan married Stephen G. Denkers on September 15, 1956, in Ogden, Utah. They were married 61 years and had 2 children, Julie Denkers-Bishop and Stephen E. Denkers. She had 5 beautiful and intelligent grandchildren.

She enjoyed spending summers in Sun Valley, Idaho and wintering in Indian Wells, California for 30 years. Steve and Susan traveled extensively worldwide. She also enjoyed playing a little golf, fly-fishing, and gardening.
