Susan Glauser Larsen
Susan Glauser Larsen, 61, of Layton passed away on June 30, 2015 after living with lymphoma for many years.
Susie was born in Ogden on July 26, 1953 to Mel and Kathy (Allen) Glauser and married Harv Larsen in the Salt Lake temple on June 17, 1975. She graduated from Clearfield High and received an associate’s degree from Dixie College in the In-Flight program where she trained as a flight attendant. She was subsequently based in New York City with United Airlines until she had her first child in 1976. Susie and family lived in Billings, Montana for a brief time before spending 25 years in Clearfield where she was an active participant of the LDS Syracuse 5 th Ward.
Susie was known for being an exceptional caretaker, often quietly enduring her own suffering while selflessly caring for others. As a case in point, after moving to Layton in 2004 she helped care for her father-in-law, Elvie Larsen, until his passing in 2009. Additionally, and most notably, she dedicated much of her life to caring for and treating her son, Brian, who has needed constant care for at least the past 25 years. Her relentless search for anything that could help him live a fuller and more productive life is a testament to her love, dedication and commitment to all of her children and grandchildren.
Susie was also known for caring for and showing a genuine interest in everyone she met, from talking to people on the subway to opening her home to those in need. She always had a way to make people feel comfortable. She had a way of greeting with the biggest, most tender hugs, the kind that only come from someone filled with love and kindness. She loved food and had a passion for healthy eating and she would share her knowledge with everyone she came into contact with. There isn't a person that knows Susie who did not hear, "are you hungry, I could make you something?" She put others before herself her whole life.
Susie loved her grandkids and was an amazing grandma. Every time she saw the grandkids her eyes would light up. She exuded a contagious childlike energy and would often be spotted playing on the floor or riding scooters down the driveway with her grandkids. They will remember grandma as a great playmate who always encouraged them to use their imagination.
Susie was the most amazing MOM! She was always such a good example of positivity, hard work, faith and spirituality and spread sunshine everywhere she went. She loved to sing and dance and would frequently break into a spontaneous jig on the kitchen floor. She always kept a beautiful garden and loved spending time in nature. From nightly family prayer and scripture study to faithful church attendance, she did an amazing job of instilling in her children a testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Susie recently posted the following quote on the refrigerator, which reflects her belief in continuity of life beyond this earth. “By God’s love, I know I AM a timeless being of eternity and immortality.”
Susie was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother Rick. She is survived by her husband (Harv) and five children, Travis (Amber Clark), Corey, Brian, Staci (Josh Cahoon), and Devin (Wendy Miranda), 9 grandchildren, brothers Steve (Tami) Glauser and Craig (Nancy) Glauser, sister Kris (Gordon) Lofts, and a very large and loving extended family.
