SUSAN ERICKSON McADAMS
1946-2014
Susan Erickson McAdams, 68, passed away suddenly at home on December 30, 2014. Susan was born on September 14, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Delmon and Marilyn Erickson. She married Michael Shelton McAdams, later divorced. Susan grew up in Rose Park and Bountiful, Utah. She graduated from Bountiful High School and from the University of Utah in Education. At 60 years old, she received her Master’s in Education Counseling. Susan worked with children for over 30 years, as an elementary school teacher, and as a school counselor for the past 7 years. Her love of learning was evident throughout her entire life and she instilled this in her children and those she associated with. She was an avid reader and was always interested to hear what others were reading. As her children grew up, you would expect her life to slow down. Instead, her schedule got busier as she tried to keep up with her children and grandchildren’s events. She could often be spotted on the sideline of a soccer field or in the audience of a recital or making a special trip to visit a loved one on their birthday.
Mom loved to write her experiences and thoughts. She left us volumes of journals, letters and photo albums documenting special occasions and many memories throughout the years. Her family was her greatest joy and it was evident throughout her actions on a daily basis. While she longed for a quiet night at home, she couldn’t pass by the opportunity to babysit, accompany her children or grandchildren to an event, go to dinner with her father every Friday night or visit with friends and loved ones.
Susan was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. She had thought about moving, but wasn’t willing to give up her current calling that allowed her to focus her study of the scriptures and teach others what she had learned.
She is survived by her father, her sisters Kris (Chez) Steel and Karen (Julie) Crist, her brothers David (Aura) and Doug (Cerrie), her brother-in-law, Bruce; her six children Tammy (Tom) Hallaq, Jackie (Jeff) Pack, Benjamin (Julie) McAdams, Andrew (Jane) McAdams, Becki (Adam) Groves, and Jeremy (Rachel) McAdams; and nineteen grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, and sister, Judy Whitaker. As her children, we are grateful for her sacrifices made for us as a single mom and are proud to be the product of her life’s work.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the West Bountiful Fifth Ward, 840 N. 800 W. West Bountiful, Utah. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary 727 N. 400 E. and Saturday from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.
