Suzanne Belnap Cheney

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a remarkable woman whose life was a testament of selflessness, dedication, and love. Suzanne was a devoted wife and mother, a guiding light of faith, a source of strength, and a pillar of support for all who knew her.

Suzanne Belnap Cheney was born to Barbara and Wayne Belnap on January 11, 1952, in Blackfoot, Idaho. She spent her youth in Rupert, Idaho with her family, Dennis Belnap (Kay), Lyman Belnap (Nancy), Elizabeth Fillmore (Larry), Priscilla Peterson (Frank), Roy Belnap (Norma Jean), Stan Belnap (Kim), and Maryann Pinther (Dave). She excelled in school and graduated salutatorian from Minidoka High School. She loved to run track and pitch fast-pitch softball. Suzanne attended Ricks College on a scholarship and transferred to BYU. At a Church function she met and fell in love with Duane Cheney from Burley, Idaho. They were married, November 18, 1972, in the Provo Utah Temple. In the early years of their marriage, they built a home in Kaysville, Utah. She is a mother to 6 daughters: Katrina Neilson (Keith), Rebecca Shaffer (Mark), Melinda Swanson (Shad), Pamela Hale (Nathan), Dianna Ashton (Brian), Alora Miller (Matt). 

Duane worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; they moved their young family to Chile where Suzanne learned to speak Spanish, how to navigate driving on roads with no rules and take care of young children where nothing was familiar. After three years in Chile, they took the family to West Bend, Wisconsin and then to Bowling Green, Ohio where she worked in the Registrar Office at the University and also worked as a companion for the Elderly.

When the family returned to Utah she and her husband built and managed an Assisted Living facility in Layton and Tremonton, Utah.

When the opportunity was presented to resume working for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a temple builder in Latin America, they took their two children who were still at home to Venezuela and for the next 15 years they traveled around building temples in San Jose, Costa Rica, Caracas, Venezuela, Panama City, Panama, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala and Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Suzanne served in many leadership positions in the Church throughout her life and her strong testimony of the gospel and love for the Savior was evident in every lesson she taught or message she shared. She had a tremendous grasp and deep understanding of the scriptures which she passionately shared.

Suzanne’s commitment to helping others knew no bounds. Her sacrifices, both seen and unseen, were the foundation upon which her life was built. Her generosity of spirit touched countless lives all over the world and left an unforgettable mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In her absence, we are left with cherished memories that will forever serve as a reminder of her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. She leaves behind a devoted husband, 6 daughters, 6 sons-in law, 28 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. 

She is survived also by her siblings Lyman Belanp, Roy Belnap (Norma Jean), Stan Belnap (Kim), Priscilla Peterson (Frank), Maryann Pinther (Dave). 

Though she may no longer walk beside us, her spirit will continue to guide us, and her legacy will live on in the lives she touched. While we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the profound impact she had on our lives and the lives of so many others.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Legacy Park Syracuse Stake Center. 2024 South 1475 West, Syracuse. Friends may visit with family on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary. 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse UT, and on Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 at the church. Interment, Rupert Cemetery, 450 N. Meridian, Rupert ID.

Con gran pesar, nos despedimos de una mujer extraordinaria cuya vida fue un testimonio de altruismo, dedicación y amor. Suzanne fue una esposa y madre devota, una luz guía de fe, una fuente de fortaleza y un pilar de apoyo para todos los que la conocieron.

Suzanne Belnap Cheney nació el 11 de enero de 1952, hija de Barbara y Wayne Belnap, en la ciudad de Blackfoot, Idaho, E.U. Ellos se casaron el 18 de noviembre de 1972 en el Santo Templo de Provo, Utah. En los primeros años de su matrimonio, construyeron una casa en Kaysville, Utah. Ella es la madre de 6 hijas: Katrina Neilson (Keith), Rebecca Shaffer (Mark), Melinda Swanson (Shad), Pamela Hale (Nathan), Dianna Ashton (Brian), y Alora Miller (Matt).

En cuanto Duane trabajó para la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días; ellos trasladaron a su familia hasta Chile donde Suzanne aprendió a hablar español, a navegar conduciendo por carreteras sin reglas y cuidando a niños pequeños donde nada le resultaba familiar. Después de tres años en Chile, llevaron a la familia a West Bend, Wisconsin y luego a Bowling Green, Ohio, donde ella trabajó en la Registraduría de la Universidad y también trabajó como acompañante a los de edad avanzada.

Cuando ellos regresaron a Utah, ella con su esposo construyeron y administraron unas Instalaciones de Vivienda Asistida en Layton y Tremonton, Utah.

Cuando se presentó la oportunidad para ellos trabajar de vuelta para la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, lo hicieron como constructores de templos. Ellos llevaron a sus dos hijos todavía en casa hasta Venezuela, y durante los siguientes 15 años viajaron construyendo templos en San José, Costa Rica; Caracas, Venezuela; Ciudad de Panamá, Panamá; Quetzaltenango, Guatemala; y Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Suzanne ocupó muchos puestos de liderazgo en la Iglesia a lo largo de su vida. Su fuerte testimonio del Evangelio y su amor por el Salvador fueron evidentes en cada lección que ella enseñó o mensaje que compartió. Ella tenía una comprensión tremenda y profunda de las Escrituras y las compartía con pasión.

El compromiso de Suzanne de ayudar a los demás no tenía límites. Sus sacrificios, tanto visibles como invisibles, fueron la base sobre la que se construyó su vida. Su generosidad de espíritu tocó innumerables vidas por todo el mundo y ella dejó una huella inolvidable en los corazones de los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla.

En su ausencia, nos quedan recuerdos preciados que siempre servirán como recordatorio de su calidez, bondad y amor inquebrantable. Deja atrás un esposo devoto, 6 hijas, 6 yernos, 28 nietos y 3 bisnietos. 

También le sobreviven sus hermanos, Lyman Belanp, Roy Belnap (Norma Jean), Stan Belnap (Kim), Priscilla Peterson (Frank), y Maryann Pinther (Dave).

Aunque ya no camine a nuestro lado en cuerpo, su espíritu seguirá guiándonos y su legado seguirá vivo en todas las vidas que ella tocó. Mientras lamentamos su fallecimiento, celebremos también el profundo impacto que tuvo en nuestras vidas y en las de tantas otras personas.

Los servicios funerarios se llevarán a cabo el lunes 15 de abril de 2024 a las 10:00 a. m. (MST) en el Centro de Estaca de Legacy Park en Syracuse, UT., 2024 Sur 1475 Oeste. Nuestros amigos podrán visitarnos familiares el domingo 14 de abril de 2024, de 6:00 a 8:00 p. m. en el Mortuorio de Lindquist de Syracuse, 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse, UT, y el lunes de 8:30 a 9:30 en la mañana en la iglesia.
