Suzanne I. "Suzi" Nicholson
Suzanne I. "Suzi" Nicholson passed away from injuries sustained in a tragic car accident in New York City on Saturday, June 2, 2012.
She was born in Cedar City Utah on February 24, 1952, the daughter of Rulon and Lois Olds Iverson. Suzi grew up mostly in St. George and graduated from Dixie High School in 1970. She received her Associates degree from Dixie College in 1972 and graduated with a Bachelors degree in business from Utah State University in 1974. While at USU she met DeWayne "Dewey" Nicholson and they were married in St. George on December 27, 1974. On July 23, 1999 they were sealed to each other and their children for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Suzi was blessed with three wonderful children; Thomas Nicholson, Jaime (Dean) Larsen, and Ashley (Preston) Steel. Her seven most precious treasures were her grandchildren Gabriel Larsen, Paige Larsen, Katelyn Steel, Tate Steel, Wade Larsen, Ty Steel, and Janie Steel. She loved them more than anything and they loved her equally as much. She never missed a ball game, dance recital, or school program of any kind.
After graduation Suzi went to work as a secretary for the US Air Force at Thiokol Corp. and worked there until Tom was born. Later she went to work as a personal secretary to John Val and Carol Browning and eventually for his company Southern Pacific Petroleum. About five years ago, Suzi went to work for Weber State University, first in Administration for a year and then as the secretary in the Geosciences Department where she was employed at the time of her passing. She loved that job more than anything she''d ever done. She was like a mother to the students who loved her and she always referred to the professors as her boys.
Suzi had a zest for life and loved to live every moment. She could find fun in the simplest of things. She loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit many exciting places around the world. The place she loved to visit most was NYC where ironically her life ended. She spent many years as a youth soccer coach and treasured those memories and remains close to many of the girls she coached.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many callings, but those she most enjoyed were in the Young Women''s organization, where she was serving at the time of her passing. She loved all the young women beyond measure and had a positive influence on so many of them.
Suzi is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Also surviving are her mother-in-law Violet Nicholson, many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, and countless other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and two brothers, Norman and Paul.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Ogden Utah Weber Stake Center, 5855 S. Skyline Drive. Friends may visit the family on Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Following the Friday services, a short service for family and friends will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the New Harmony Ward Chapel. Interment, New Harmony, UT cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Suzi Nicholson Memorial Scholarship Fund at Weber State University, 4018 University Circle, Ogden, UT 84408-4018. Checks should be made payable to Weber State with a note that it is for this fund. A scholarship in Suzi''s name will be awarded each year to an outstanding student majoring in the Geosciences.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to everyone here at home in Utah, and all the people in New York City and around the world for their prayers, love, and service to us during this difficult time.
