LAYTON, Sylvia Leone Lefler Hansen, age 88 passed from this life peacefully on March 23, 2015 at Fairfield Village of Layton in Layton, Utah. She was born July 20, 1926, in Midway Utah. She was the only child of the late Franklin Leo and Sylvia VanWagnen Lefler.
A very strong independent woman who believed in hard work, Sylvia excelled at many jobs starting at a very young age. One of her first was delivering telegrams on roller skates to families during World War II. She graduated from South High School in 1944, and after receiving many awards for her outstanding service, retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1990.
Sylvia married John Garr Brough in Denver, Colorado on June 13, 1944. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS temple. Although they later separated, they remained good friends committed to keeping their children and grandchildren strong and close as a family. In 1971, Sylvia married Karsten Frank Hansen Jr.
Sylvia was an active member of the LDS church. She loved her active life, her family, gardening, crocheting, cross stitch, sewing, taking care of her animals, and traveling with friends and family members. She always had a fun sense of humor and loved to laugh and tease people.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Karsten Frank Hansen, Jr. She is survived by her five children: Lyndia (James) Graham, John (Pat) Brough, Thomas (Pauline) Brough, Wayne (Peggy) Brough, Tynna (Douglas) Haskell; 24 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Sylvia has created a strong legacy that will live on in everyone who knew her truly wonderful spirit, and close family and friends will miss her dearly. The family wishes to thank the many, many people who helped with her care in the last two years, especially Heather Halbert and the nursing staff at Envision Home Health and Hospice.
