Mr. Tam Van Phung

February 21, 1931 ~ December 14, 2019

Tam Van Phung, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by his lovely wife and children on December 14, 2019 at South Ogden Post Acute nursing facility.

In 1947 he met and fell in love with his now wife Nguyen Thi Hue.  The couple married in 1953 and stayed together until his last day after 66 years.

Mr. Phung is a dedicated husband and father to his eight children. He is respected as a man that stays with his words, his loyalty to his country, family and friends. Beside his unconditional love to his wife and kids, he also joined the military to serve his country when he was 20 years old.

He attended Dong De Military Academy in Vietnam and trained at Fort Sill in Oklahoma, United States. During his lifetime military career, he served through many ranks, earned several medals including the highest National Order of Vietnam.

After the fall of the Republic of Vietnam in April 1975, he was forced into the labor camp which was called “re- education camp” by the communist regime like many other hundred thousands of the South Vietnam Military officers and was released over six years later due to his health condition.

After that he worked really hard to help his wife continue raising his family. He and his wife with three of his children were granted political refugee status by the United States Government and resided in Utah from April 1994 till present.

Tam Van Phung will be missed by his family, his friends and many others that have met or worked with him before.

Celebration of his life is held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit on Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the mortuary. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
