Ted Leroy Parke
April 10, 1936 ~ August 1, 2016
Ted Leroy Parke passed away on August 1, 2016 at McKay Dee Hospital, in Ogden, Utah, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 80 of causes related to advanced age. Ted will be remembered, above all else, as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His primary motivation in life was to faithfully serve his Savior. Ted’s kind heart, generous nature, and storytelling abilities will long be remembered by those that love him.
Ted was born on April 10, 1936, to Charles A. Parke and Vera C. Fowles, in Ogden, Utah. He was the youngest of three children, and is survived by his older brother, Boyd C. Parke (Floreen Kapp), of Plain City, Utah. Ted graduated from Weber High School in 1954. He thereafter attended college at the University of Utah.
He married the love of his life, Judith Van Boerum, also of Ogden, Utah, on August 22, 1957. Together they had ten children, John T. Parke (Konnie Lund), Debra A. Hale (Lee Hale), Linda V. Chatwin (Tracy Chatwin), David W. Parke (Jennifer May), Susan M. Silverwood (Steve Silverwood), Marilyn V. Christensen (DJ Christensen), Richard J. Parke (Natalie Huff), Thomas N. Parke (Sarah Pope), James L. Parke (Megan Bates), and Robert V. Parke (Brittany Schneck). Ted and Judy have 50 grandchildren, and 43 great- grandchildren with two more on the way.
Ted was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and prized his testimony of the gospel above all else. He served as a stake missionary, stake high counselor, bishop, stake president, patriarch, sunday school teacher, and scoutmaster. Although he did not have the chance to serve a mission, 22 of his descendants have served LDS missions. All of his children have been married in the temple, as have many of his grandchildren.
Professionally, Ted was a partner at William C. Parke and Sons, Inc., and held management positions at Levolor and Convergys. Ted served as a member of the Weber County School Board, the West Haven City Planning Commission, and the West Haven City Council.
When he was not working, Ted enjoyed gardening, eating out, and attending his grandchildren’s recreational activities. In his later years, he routinely called his grandchildren to remind them that he loved them, and that the gospel is true. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gary L. Parke, and two of his grandchildren, Makenna F. Chatwin and Drew K. Parke.
In dealing with his final illness, Ted wished to thank all of those who cared for him, including his wife, his children and their spouses, his doctors, the talented caregivers at Home Instead Senior Care, and specifically his caregivers Marlo Brown and Tori Moran
