Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, nephew, uncle, and friend, Ted Duke Roane, passed away January 15, 2023, following a long 4-year health battle after a stroke. He fought a good fight and will be missed dearly by all who loved him.
He was born July 16, 1956, in Ogden, Utah, to Robert A. Perez and Evelyn (Terry) Sophia Farr Roane. He and his high school sweetheart, Jan Garr, were married and sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 20, 1978. They went on to have 4 children and 15 grandchildren.
Duke graduated from Bonneville High School before serving a 2-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Albuquerque, New Mexico mission. He worked at Jetway Systems for 17 years, followed by jobs with KK Mechanical, and Church Welfare Services. He finished his working life as an outside salesman with THB Inc. for 17 years, and had a small side business, A. Roane Services, which included lawn care, property management, and sign sewing services.
Duke was an avid golfer and student of the game and would often compare life and golf. He could often be found watching football and golf and rarely missed a big game or tournament. Above all, he loved being with friends and family, eating out, cooking, or playing golf.
Duke was known as the life of the party and could always tell a good story. He had an infectious laugh and loved making people laugh.
Duke was an active member of the Church and served in many callings including Elders Quorum President, Sunday School teacher, and his favorites: Nursery Leader and Primary Chorister. After a stroke four years ago left him paralyzed on his right side, he still served in the church by picking out the sacrament meeting hymns every Sunday. He loved music and loved to sing. He loved children and always had a way about him that children loved, especially his grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all of those who took such good care of Duke in his times of need including doctors, nurses, CNAs, dentist, medical transport, therapists, fire fighters, Clinton 9th ward members, neighbors, friends, and all of the support staff who helped to organize his care.
He is survived by his wife, Jan; their children, Tony (Jen) Roane, Andrew (Kari) Roane, Tiffany (Matt) Rawson, Janica (Mike) Ellsworth; siblings, Todd (Julene) Roane, Cary (Donna) Roane, Camille (Richard) Palmer, Jon (Rebecca) Roane, Matt (Angie) Roane, Allison (Eduardo) Avila, Aaron (Susan) Roane; and father, Randall (Norma) Roane.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Evelyn (Terry) Sophia Farr Roane; dad, Robert A. Perez, brother, Randy (Patricia) Roane, and son-in-law, Eric (Janica) Ellsworth.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 11:00 am, at the Clinton West Stake Center, 2141 West 1800 North, Clinton, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held Friday, January 27th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Lindquist Syracuse Mortuary, 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse, Utah, and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the church prior to services.
