Ted Teruo Yamada

1921 ~ 2014

Ted Teruo Yamada passed away peacefully on March 28, 2014, at the age of 93.  He was born March 8, 1921 in Uintah, Utah to Shinichi and Suzumi Yamada.  He graduated from Davis High School in 1940. Ted worked on the family farm in Syracuse, UT until he joined the Army in 1944. He served two tours of duty in Heidelberg, Germany. After his discharge in 1949, he earned an Associate Degree from Weber State College and then worked at Hill Air Force Base as an airplane and helicopter mechanic for 32 years. He married Toshimi Tsukamoto on April 4, 1955. They raised 5 children, Jerry (Margaret) Yamada, Neal Yamada, Cindy (Bill) Thomas, Caryn Yamada, and Mary Yamada. He had 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Ted’s greatest love was his family. He was a wonderful, patient father, a gentle grandfather, and loving great grandfather. He was always positive and could brush off any negative event. If you messed up, he was always there to get you back on your feet and moving forward with a smile. He was known for his dry sense of humor.

Ted is survived by his sisters, Misuko (Shige) Shimada and Aiko (Beb) Okada.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Toshimi and his brothers, Sadamu “Sam”, Tomio “Tom” and Masaru “Mas”.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Ogden Buddhist Temple, 155 North Street.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the temple.  Interment, Ogden Cemetery. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Ted’s name to the George E Wahlen Veteran’s Home at 1102 North 1200 West Ogden UT 84404.

The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff at the VA Home for their friendship and exceptional care of our father and to Bristol Hospice for his gentle, peaceful transition to a better place.
