Teresa Loretta Finnegan Merritt "Terry"
Teresa Loretta Finnegan Merritt was born in Manhattan, New York City on July 28, 1915, the daughter of Patrick Finnegan and Catherine Driscoll Finnegan. She died August 6, 2007.
Mom was the third oldest of four sisters. Her mother died of TB when Mom was eight years old. This created an uncommonly strong bond among the sisters.
Mom worked as a secretary for Ingersoll-Rand in New York, where she met Joe Merritt, they were married on May 4, 1940, and remained married for over 66 years.
She enjoyed her bridge clubs and meetings of Catholic ladies known as the ''Wolf Pack''. She was a member of St. Olaf''s Catholic Church since 1957, when Mass was celebrated in a small house on 100 North in Bountiful.
Mom was an avid sports fan, particularly of the San Francisco Giants, Utah Utes, the Jazz and Tiger Woods. She had a strategically built-in fold out ironing board which made ironing while watching the World Series no problem.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, two sisters, Kathleen (Katch) and Mary (May), and by two infant daughters, Sheila and Mary, also many dear friends too numerous to mention. She is survived by two sons, Joe (Joyce) of San Diego, CA and Chris (Kathy) of Salt Lake City; a daughter, Mary Sheila (Bob) of Mill Valley, CA; grandchildren, Kristen (Chris) Pincherli of Long Beach, CA; William of Salt Lake City, James of Gilbert, AZ; Sarah Mass (fellow Giants fan) of Tufts University, and Ian Mass of Mill Valley, CA. Also survived by a sister, Marge of Palm Harbor, FL and a great grandson Pincherli due in October.
The family thanks the staff and residents of Heritage Place, Alpine Hospice, especially Cathy Pope and the friends who visited Mom there for the kindness and companionship they gave in her last years.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Olaf''s Catholic Church, 1793 S. Orchard Dr. Bountiful, at 10:00 am on Saturday August 11, 2007. Friends may call Friday, August 10th at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. from 6-7:45 pm., with prayer service at 7:45 pm. Committal will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 4th Ave and ''T'' St. Salt Lake City. Condolences may be shared at www.lindquistmortuary.com
