Terry John Van Vleet, 84, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024. He was born in Priest River, Idaho, to his parents Osro Vanetta and LaVerne Byington Van Vleet. He grew up in Grace and Pocatello, Idaho before settling in Ogden, Utah until his death.
He was sealed to Judi Ruth Reyns on November 27, 1963, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together, they raised three sons and enjoyed 38 years of marriage before Judi passed away on November 15, 2002. Terry’s wish for his children was that they would be as happy in their marriages as he and Judi were in theirs. He was a loving father, devoted husband, and caring grandparent.
Professionally, Terry was a trusted pharmacist in the South Ogden community. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Weber State University, followed by a Pharmacy degree from the University of Utah. He worked as the owner/co-owner of Kwik Stop Drug pharmacy.
Terry was well-known for his athletic accomplishments. He was inducted into the Idaho High School Sports Hall of Fame and honored by the IHSAA Legends of the Game as a member of Grace High School’s 1957 to 1958 state champion basketball team. He played college varsity athletics, belonging to both the football and basketball teams at Weber State University. Terry was an accomplished golfer and avid tennis player. He worked as a ski instructor and member of the ski patrol. He spent countless hours coaching his sons and grandchildren in their respective sports, strengthening their bond and love of competition.
Terry is survived by his three sons, Terry Jr. (Laura) Van Vleet of Grayslake, IL; John (Natalie) Van Vleet of Preston, ID; and Jason (Sara) Van Vleet of Washington Terrace, UT; six grandchildren, Madison Marriott, Alexa Van Vleet, Zoe Zettel, Vanessa Mickelsen, Jacob Van Vleet, and Avy Van Vleet; great-grandchild, Theodore Marriott; and siblings, Philip Van Vleet, Kent Van Vleet, and Joy Hekker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judi; his parents, Osro and LaVerne; and his siblings, Eugene Van Vleet, Dean Van Vleet, and Merlin (Dennis) Van Vleet.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
