Tessie Anderson Boren Alberts

Tessie Anderson Boren Alberts, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away May 30, 2013 in Ogden, Utah. She was born June 22, 1922 in Salt Lake City to Oren Joseph Anderson and Tessie Thacker Murdock. Her mother died soon after her birth and she was adopted and raised by her aunt and uncle, Hazel Thacker Boren and Ray Boren. Tessie grew up in Charleston, Utah and graduated from Wasatch High School. In 1939, she married Paul J. Ballard. Two children, Betty Ray and Lynn Paul were born to this union. They lived briefly in Charleston, Utah and in Kannapolis, North Carolina before moving to Provo, Utah. They were divorced in 1947.

Tessie lost most of her hearing before age 20. However, this misfortune led to training in watchmaking and jewelry, which proved to be a valuable career. She was a Federal employee for many years, beginning at the Arsenal in Roy as a clerk typist and advancing to instrument repair, and finally to the position of audiologist at Hill Air Force Base. After retiring she continued selling and servicing hearing aids.

In 1954 she married Martin A. (Jack) Powers. They lived in Washington Terrace and enjoyed studying and traveling with the Geodisciplus Club, a local rock-hound group. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served a mission to San Diego among the Lao immigrants. She enjoyed her membership in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers as well as her hobbies, which included wood carving, jewelry crafting, lapidary and piano. She was intelligent, independent, and creative throughout her life, in spite of her hearing handicap.

In her later years, after Jack''s death, Tessie married Peter Alberts. They enjoyed trips to Arizona in the cold months until Pete died in 1980.

Tessie is survived by a sister, Nina Anderson Dejonghe of Tucson, AZ, her children, Betty and Lynn, her grandchildren, Nicolle Nunley, Julie Rexroat, Paul H. Ballard, Stephen W. Ballard, Danielle Ballard, Laurel Richins, Jessica Endrizzi, and Andrew M. Ballard. She has twenty-five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Charleston Cemetery, Charleston, Utah at 3 p.m.
