Thayne Robert Green

1923-2016

“Oh I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth, and danced the skies in laughter-silvered wings. And while with silent drifting mind, I’ve trod the high unsurpassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God.”

On September 26, 2016, Thayne, our hero, aviator, husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather passed peacefully, but true to form he battled numerous health issues with the courage and dignity that epitomized his life.

Thayne was born May 27, 1923 to Robert Eli Green and Malinda Burton.  He attended Layton Elementary, Davis High School and received an Associate Degree from Weber State College.  Thayne joined the Army Air Corps and graduated with the class of 44 E Pilots Class.  He placed first in the gunnery competition.

He married Genevieve Lake.  They had four sons, Thayne Robert (Bob) Jr. (Ann), Douglas (Pam), Mark (Holly) and Brad.  They later divorced.  He married his soul mate Patricia Reinhart on September 12, 1986.  From this marriage he gained two loving daughters, Cynthia (Kurt) Argyle and Leslie (Bill) Walsh.

Thayne loved the military and his country.  He retired from the USAF as a Major.  Places he lived are Layton, Utah, Chandler, AZ, Chico, CA, Ashia, Japan, The Azores, Ellsworth AFB, SD, Guam, Chanute AFB, IL, Mather AFB, CA and Tacoma, WA.

Thayne was a member of the LDS church.  His business endeavors included Star Realty, Valley West Realty,New Generation Homes, and Northern Wasatch Association of Realtors.

Thayne’s hobbies and interests include airplanes, horses, reading, fishing, football and watching old western movies.

Thayne is survived by his wife Pat, sons, Bob, Mark and Brad, his daughters Cindy and Leslie, a brother John Green, a sister Marjorie Simmons, thirteen grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Malinda Green, and son Douglas Green.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton.  Friends may visit with family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m  and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.  at the mortuary.

Interment , Kaysville City Cemetery
