Theone Junior (JR) Dayton
April 23, 1929 – March 12, 2015
SOUTH WEBER – Theone Junior (JR) Dayton, 85, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 23, 1929 in Brigham City, Utah to Theone Alma and Lottie B. Hyde Dayton.
On July 1, 1948, he married his sweetheart and eternal companion Helen Adamson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They shared over 66 wonderful years together.
He enjoyed camping and hunting, his favorite spot being Desert Land, sitting around the campfire telling stories about the “monster bucks that ran over the ridge.” He loved spending time with his family and making memories. Another love, however, was fishing at Flaming Gorge. No one could set a hook quite like JR. His technique became known as the “Dayton Jerk” and you had better be alert when fishing next to him or you could find yourself in the lake.
He was a hard worker with an outstanding work ethic. He worked for his father in the family business starting at a young age. He later worked for Farmers Grain, Waterfall Construction, Weber Basin Job Corps, Holley Construction, Arrow Sand and Gravel, Jack B. Parson Company, and Kastle Rock Excavation.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints being a High Priest and serving in many ward and stake positions.
He is survived by his wife Helen, three sons and three special daughters-in-law, Richard G. (Brenda Warby) of Hooper, Dean T. (Jeri Cash) and Mark L. (Natalie Jorgensen) all of South Weber, one brother Reed T. (Sherron) of Roy, two sisters Bettie Dayton Jensen of Ogden, Joan Dayton Dill of California, eight grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers-in-law Cardon Jensen, James Dill, Loyd Adamson and Robert Adamson.
We would like to thank the Hearts of Hospice for the wonderful and tender care given to JR and our family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
