Thomas Edwin Bloomer

Thomas Edwin Bloomer passed away on August 24, 2013 at Manor Care Center. Tom was born on September 10, 1914 in Dallas, Texas to Vinnie Dale Dooley and William Tom Bloomer.

He grew up in Dallas and graduated from Sunset High School. In 1942 he joined the US Air Force and was stationed overseas with the American Volunteer Group to the China, Burma and India areas. He was in charge of the Post Exchange in Karicha, India. In 1944 he returned home and was stationed at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH.

Tom met his sweetheart Vera Runyan (a WAC) stationed at Wright Patterson. They were both discharged in 1945 and they returned to Dallas where they were married in 1947.

He and Vera then returned to Dayton, Ohio and Tom worked at the Post Exchange and Vera obtained a civil service job at Wright Patterson. In 1952 Vera was transferred to Hill Air Force Base. They bought a home in Sunset and Tom worked at Buehler and Bingham''s Clothing Store and later at Hill Air Force Base. Tom and Vera lived in Roy and finally settled in South Ogden.

In 1979, Tom and Vera retired from Hill Air Force Base. Each winter for the next twenty-five years they spent six months in Yuma, AZ until 2006 when they sold their mobile home in Sunrise Park and returned to live fulltime in South Ogden.

Tom and Vera loved the west and each summer they traveled to Yellowstone Park, Glacier Park, and Canada. They did this for twenty summers.

Tom was a Scottish Rite Mason, and member of the Eagle and Elk organizations.

Tom is survived by his nieces, Mary Edith Bloomer, Karen Rhea, Sondra Fowler, Annette Allsup, Bonnie Morris, Carolyn Johnson, Linda Herritage, and Elaine Davenport; nephews, Charles Bloomer, Kirk Bloomer, Dennis Ludwick, Steve Runyan, and Royce Runyan

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vera; mother and father, and brothers, Robert, Ralph and Charles.

Thomas was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August, 28, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
