Thomas D. Fry CLEARFIELD – Thomas D. Fry, 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 due to complications of heart and pulmonary disease. Through his life he brought joy and happiness to his family and friends, and after suffering many heart problems he kept his humor and always had a smile on his face. He was born January 11, 1929 son of Thomas Loyal Fry and Hattie Ina (Heiner) Fry in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a child he was raised in SLC then moved to Layton, then Morgan, Utah, then back to Layton and finally resided at his home in Clearfield, Utah where he spent the last 55 years. He attended Ogden City elementary schools, Morgan High School, and Davis High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1949 with a group of friends that stayed together in San Diego, California and went on to France, until November 1946. They have remained close friends since. He received an honorable discharge in November 1947 as Seaman 1st Class. Following his service with the Navy he re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was an Airman 1st Class while stationed in the Aleutian Islands and France. Tom received a World War II Victory Ribbon from President Harry S. Truman. He went to Weber College for nine years and earned his degree. He worked at various jobs at Hill Air Force Base, starting in 1952. He became the Supervisor over Training Devices where he retired after 38 years of service. He was President of the National Association of Supervisors. He belonged to the LDS Church and was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Eagles Lodge where he would always be helping during the services. They became Arizona and Nevada Sunbirds until their health caused them to slow down. He married the love of his life, Margaret Anne Castor, on May 28, 1949 and was blessed with one daughter Leanne (Fry) Fulmer. Mom and Dad enjoyed life; they always had their family and best friends over for ping-pong in the garage, or a friendly card game and cookouts. They were always going to archery shoots; they never missed a season to go to Monroe Mountain to bow and arrow hunt. They were on numerous bowling leagues at Hilltop Lanes, White City Lanes and Davis Lanes. He is survived by his daughter Leanne (Garth) Fulmer of Layton, UT. Tom and Margie were also blessed with a granddaughter, Jorgan (John David) Perham, of Hooper, UT, and a grandson, Thomas Chad Fulmer of Layton, UT; brother Loyal Wayne (Elma) Fry of Bountiful, UT; sisters DiAnne (Glen) Campbell of South Ogden, UT, Nadine Spencer of Kaysville, UT, Susan (Elwood) Shifflett of Syracuse, UT, and sister-in-law Norine Fry of Clearfield, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Loyal and Hattie Ina Fry, his brother Keith Fry and his wife Margaret Fry He was also preceded in death by his favorite Aunt Beverly Joye Crouch from Morgan, Utah. Graveside services will be held Monday, October 12, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 12:45 to 1:45 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. The family would like to thank two very special doctors, Dr. Michael Buch and Dr. Bruce Burtenshaw and their staff for being so compassionate and taking such great care of both of our parents.
