Thomas T. Kariya

Thomas T. Kariya, born February 27, 1919, fell asleep in death Sunday morning, August 9, 2009 from injuries sustained through an accident at home.

Tom was the 3rd oldest of ten children born to Shozo and Tama Kariya in Roseville, California.

He served in World War II with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, an all Japanese-American unit.

Tom married Himeyo Mukai in 1947 and they had three sons. They divorced in 1971.

He worked for many years in the family business, "Kay''s Noodle Parlor" in Ogden until he went to work for Weber County before retiring in 1986.

Tom married the love of his life, Gloria Green in 1974 and they enjoyed 35 years together doing all the things they loved. Tom was a true outdoorsman whose ready smile was never as big as when he was bringing in that fish he waited so patiently for. He was a kind, gentle and humble man, remembered by his friends as a hard worker who seldom sat still.

Tom was baptized as one of Jehovah''s Witnesses on July 6, 1977 and he served faithfully until his death. His happiest times where in the Great Outdoors where he could fully appreciate Jehovah God''s marvelous creations. He was a generous and big hearted man who looked for opportunities to help those he loved, never asking for recognition.

Tom is survived by his wife, Gloria; her son, William (Jill) Gibson, Syracuse; daughter, Marie Beamer, Layton; his three sons, Thomas, Jr., Vancouver; Richard, Ogden; Robert (Sandy), Kaysville; four grandchildren and one beautiful great-grandson; two brothers, Haruo Kariya, Salt Lake City; Teruo Kariya, Layton; four sisters, Yoshiko (Alfred) Mori, Hawaii; Hisaye Yaguchi, Washington; Kiyoko (Bill) Sipes, Layton; Yaeko Kuntz, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Tatsuki, Shigeo and Yoshio.

Tom, you will be missed but never forgotten as we hold on to our hope of seeing you again in the Resurrection where you will be healthy and young again.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 12th at 5:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah''s Witnesses, 1323 East Gentile Street, Layton.

Friends may call 45 minutes prior to the service.
