Jay Roberts, 81, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Alta View Hospital in South Jordan.

He was born July 27, 1927 in Tremonton, to Thomas Roberts and Hazel Rebecka Anderson and was the oldest of five children. He attended school in Box Elder County and graduated from Bear River High School. He served an 18 month term with the U.S. Army where he was stationed overseas in Japan.

Upon returning, he courted and married Lola Rae Summers on February 8, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple. They were blessed with four children: Gary, Tony, Ron and Diane.

Jay was a dairy farmer in Tremonton until he returned to school and received a degree from Utah State University. He obtained employment in 1971 with Utah State Job Services where he was successful in his career for over 25 years. The family made their home in North Ogden, where they lived until 2006.

Jay was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the church and served faithfully in many capacities. He and his wife served missions for the church in Portugal, the Santiago Chile Temple, and the Ogden inner-city mission. They also served as Stake Missionaries and as Ordinance Workers in the Ogden Temple.

Jay enjoyed all aspects of music throughout his life. He played clarinet and sang in the choir in high school. He loved playing piano. He performed in duets and quartets in many church and civic programs. He also shared his musical talents with youth when he gave assemblies in schools. Jay took much pride in his family and their accomplishments.

He is survived by his following sons and their families: Gary and his children Corey, Bryon, Angie, Nick, Nikki and Ryan; Tony and Debbie Roberts and their children, Brad and Jenny; Ron and Shauna Roberts and their children Jennelle, Devin, Andrea, Leighton, and Garrett. Marilee, and Katie Fredrickson and Michelle Stevens are the daughters of Diane.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola, daughter Diane, and granddaughter, Stacy.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 1 at 1 p.m. at the Ben Lomond 9th Ward Chapel, 575 East 3100 North, North Ogden.

Friends and family may call at the Ward Chapel on Saturday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
