Thomas William Cunningham was born July 3, 1935, in Park City, Utah. He passed from this life, March 11, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born to Herbert William and Ida Luella Street Cunningham. He grew up the son of a miner. He loved to run and play in the mountains of Park City with his six siblings. His family moved to Ogden when he was ten years old, and this is where he spent the rest of life. He attended Weber High School, where he was a state champion wrestler.
Tom married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Crockett, who preceded him in death. Tom and Sharon were avid square dancers and very involved in their square-dancing group, traveling, making costumes, and putting on one act plays. Together they raised four children, Brent (Sandy) Cunningham, Chris (Clif) Critchlow, Gary Cunningham, and Diane Cunningham (Joe) Orlando. His family is his joy. He has 15 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and many others who call him “Grandpa Tom.”
Tom enjoyed working and worked hard his whole life. As a young boy, he picked cherries, worked the potato farm, and the cannery. He worked 38 years at DDO as a Civil Engineer. He also installed carpet until pandemic times forced him to retire at the age of 84.
We have fond memories of growing up with Dad. When he got off work early, he would take us to the park and to get ice cream. He loved taking the boys water skiing, fishing and hunting, and coaching them in baseball and football. He loved watching the girls in their many baton and dancing performances, and spending time laughing, joking, and playing games with them. Tom knew and loved each of his children, grandchildren and great and great-great-grandchildren. He talked and spent time with each one often, developing and maintaining a strong, loving relationship with them. Each one felt they were his favorite. He supported them in all their activities, and enjoyed every game, tournament, musical, concert, and recital. He could always be found at family events, playing, teasing, and having fun with all of the children. There was always joy and laughter when Grandpa was around. He was very proud of them.
Tom loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved to golf and fish with the fishing crew in the Queen Charlotte Islands of Canada. He enjoyed telling stories of his many adventures. Tom taught us how to work hard, valued honesty, and make memories with friends and family. He looked forward to visits, dinners, games, rides up the canyon, and phone calls with nieces each week and more. We will miss this great man. He will be in our hearts and watching over us, cheering us on forever and always.
Thank you to all those who cared for him these past few years. He loved you and we are forever grateful to you for keeping him going; comfortable and happy. Tom showed us how to live life, love everyone and keep going. We will miss you. Goodbye for now, “Love You Back”.
