Thomas P. Woods
OGDEN- Thomas P. Woods passed away on December 2, 2011 at his sons home. He was born in Ogden, on August 21, 1932 the son of Parley Thomas and Vonda Doxey Woods.
He was educated in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School. He was an avid swimmer and competed in swimming competitions at Ogden High School and the Deseret Gym.
Thomas married Geraldine Miller Larsen in 1953 after having two sons they later divorced. He then married Alice Kay Deuel in 1958 and from that marriage had one son Allan and they later divorced. He married Gloria Israelsen Mansfield in 1966 and were married 34 wonderful years. He has spent the last 10 years with his sweetheart Carma Jensen 84 years old sharing many wonderful adventures together.
He worked as a Life Guard at Rainbow Gardens Pool. He worked for Boyles Furniture delivering and repairing furniture, worked for Defense Depot of Ogden and retiring after 27 years as a woodworker.
He spent 9 years in the Utah National Guard during the 1950s. The highest rank he achieved was the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He lived in Ogden Utah for the majority of his life and spent his last few weeks in the care of his son Allan in Layton.
His hobbies included photography, art, fly fishing, camping, traveling and exploring new places, bike riding and enjoying the outdoors. He continued riding his bicycle through age 61 at an average of 20 miles a day.
He devoted 11 years to the Boy Scout Program as Scout Master and helped 100% of the scouts in his troop achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He loved teaching survival skills and introducing the scouts to the mountains and other Utah adventures. He was also a Hunter Safety instructor for the state of Utah. He helped start the McGruff and Neighborhood Watch programs in his neighborhood to offer local kids a safer environment.
Thomas is survived by his sweetheart Carma Jensen, one sister Janice (LeEarl) Stewart, one brother, Ted (Carolyn) Woods.
His children include, Thomas and Larry Larson unfortunately he didn''t have the opportunity to raise them as he would have liked, Allan Thomas Woods and step daughter Diana (Ron) Thompson who he also would have liked to have raised. Lisa Israelsen Baxter has always been a special niece who he thought of as his daughter, Grandchildren Emylie Ann Woods (Cody Morris), Stacey Lynn (Woods) (Mat) Jones, Lindsay Marie Tribett and Jordan Leigh Tribett, great-grandchildren Brayden Reed Jones and Addison Mae Morris he also had many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Parley Thomas Woods, Mother Vonda Doxey Woods, Brother John Woods, and a niece Christy Stewart.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 8, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary 3408 Washington Blvd. Family will meet with friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Interment, Aultorest Cemetery, 836 36th St.
