“A grandfather is someone with silver in his hair and gold in his heart”
Thongsay Luanglath “Papa Thong”, 68 years of age, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah.
Thongsay was born on November 15, 1954, to his late parents Bouakham and Phay in Vientiane, Laos. He was the 2nd of nine children.
After marrying his eternal partner, Phayvanh, they moved to the United States in 1980 with Ladda in hand and Linda in the works. She loves and adores him and considers herself so blessed to have had the best husband by her side all of these years.
As a young family man of modest means, Papa Thong, was a man full of abundance. Abundance of love, companionship, selflessness, and support. All of which were rendered by the 3 most beautiful women in his life. His wife “Mama Vanh”, and his two daughters Ladda and Linda who thought the world of him.
He loved singing Thai karaoke together with his wife and were very loving soulmates. He would be a lost puppy without his wife. He was a very good husband, father and better yet, a grandfather. From the day of the birth of his first grand baby until the day he passed, he dedicated his life to his grandchildren, who undeniably are the joys of his life. The love Papa Thong had for his grand babies was evident to those who knew him. No bounds or distance would keep him from being involved in their lives. From his morning greetings to his nightly “Papa Peng Peng” calls, Papa Thong was their world. “Papa Peng Peng” means “Papa loves you dearly”.
He enjoyed playing soccer, riding his bike, washing his cars, and most importantly spending time with his family. He had an obsession with vehicle purchases, occasionally a new one every 3 years, amazon purchases, bbq grills, shoe collections, watches, hats, and especially camping chairs, most of which were hardly used. The best part of his obsession is spoiling his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beautiful and loving wife, Phayvanh, his two devoted daughters Ladda and Linda, his precious grandchildren Maliya, Reylyn, Maddon, and Alyna, and 8 siblings.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road, Layton Utah.
