Thurman Jay Hutzley
Thurman Jay Hutzley passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. He was born on September 12, 1924 in Ogden to Nephi John and Norma Shupe Hutzley. He grew up in Harrisville. He graduated in 1942 from Weber High where he played football and then joined the Army Air Corps, proudly serving his country during WWII.
He married Lois Godfrey on September 21, 1946. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in November 1953.
During his life he worked for several companies in Utah and Idaho. He retired from Hill Air Force Base where he worked as a jet aircraft mechanic for many years. He loved to garden and enjoyed many days golfing with his wife and Dale and Louise Call.
He was faithful in serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Branch Presidency for the Washington Terrace Nursing Home and as an Ogden LDS Temple ordinance worker.
Thurman was a direct descendant through his mother Norma Shupe Hutzley to Andrew Jackson Shupe a Blacksmith in Nauvoo at the time of the LDS migration to the Salt Lake Valley. His tools have been returned to Nauvoo and can be seen by visitors.
Surviving are his five sons and two daughters, Clayton, Blake (Kathleen), Daniel (Vivian), Garth Neal (Janet), Nathan (Shelley), Gaylene (Mike) Scott and Valerie (Lance) Krebs; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and brother, H. Dee (Beverly) Hutzley.
Thurman was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; son, Mark, and sister, Beth Tackett.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
Thanks to the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home and Bristol Hospice for their loving and dignified care of our father this past year. Another of the greatest generation has passed away. We love you Dad.
