Thurman Leroy (Lee) Strickland, Jr. age 92, passed away on Friday June 7, 2024 in Clinton, Utah. He was born August 29, 1931 in Nichols, South Carolina to Thurman Leroy Strickland Sr., and Elise Jean Hewitt Strickland.
He worked on his grandfather’s tobacco farms as a youth. He left at the age of 18 to join the Air Force where he served from 1949 to 1953. He served during the Korean conflict.
He met and eventually married Marva May Baker while stationed at Hill Air Force Base . After his service in the Air Force, he worked as a licensed Journeyman Plumber and later as a contractor. He was instrumental in plumbing construction across the Ogden Utah area, as well as in Idaho and Wyoming.
He and his first wife Marva raised three sons in North Ogden. After her death he married Darleen Olive Talbot on November 21, 1988 in Elko, Nevada. They have been married for 35 years and lived in Clinton, Utah
Lee took pride in landscaping and keeping his yard in immaculate condition. He also enjoyed RVing, playing golf, table games, he was a master storyteller and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was also associated with the Ogden Masonic Temple and Fraternal Order of The Elks.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marva May Baker, parents Thurman Leroy Strickland Sr., and Elise Strickland, four sisters; Louise Ford, Doris Ford, Mary Elizabeth Strickland and Martha Jean Johnson.
He is survived by his wife Darleen, his sons; Kirk E, Brent L, Rodney J (James B. Lebo), a daughter in law Laurel More Strickland, step sons: Steven W Hofine (Rosie), Mark R. (Bob) Talbot (Debbie), step daughters: Terrie E. Seitz ( Timothy), Leann V. Garrett and Jolene E. Warren (Scott), 25 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday June 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. Friends and family may visit Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah prior to the graveside service.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park.
