Thurman Scott Preece

LAYTON – Thurman Scott Preece, husband, father, brother, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle and friend died Sunday, May 25, 2014.

Born January 3, 1933 to George W. and Hazel Marie Scott at Cove, Utah, the youngest of eight children. Raised on the family farm attended grade school, until age 10 when the family moved to Clearfield, Utah, where he attended school in Davis County.

Thurman married Golda Flanders in 1951. They had two children Larry and Debra and later divorced.

On March 23, 1961 he married Sandra Sessions Kelsey. They were sealed May 12, 1964 for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.

Thurman was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was ward clerk for many years. He and Sandra served as temple workers in the Ogden and Denver Temples for five years. Thurman continued doing temple work until his illness.

He worked at HAFB and retired after 37 years. He operated “Preece Taxidermy” at his home for over 30 years where he made many good friends. He loved the outdoors, spending time camping, fishing and hunting with his family and friends, also trips to Flaming George, looking for the “Big One.”

Surviving are his wife Sandra, children, Larry (Sheri), Debra, Wendy (James) Norberg, Steven (Denise), Scott (Tamie), Rosemary Smith, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and sister, Melba Larsen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Fort Lane Ward, 1402 N. Fort Lane, Layton. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Franklin, Idaho Cemetery.
