Tom James Soter
Tom James Soter “Papou”, 82, a longtime resident of Ogden, UT, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2012, surrounded by family.
He was born in Magna, UT on November 12, 1929 the youngest of three children to James and Ageliko Katsipodas Soter. He grew up in Magna, later moving to Ogden where he graduated from Weber High School. After high school, he joined the US Army serving in World War II.
Tom married Maria Thiros on August 30, 1953 at Holy Trinity Greet Orthodox Church in Salt Lake City. They then settled in Ogden, where they raised their family. He worked as a salesman and warehouseman for Gateway Distributing until his retirement.
He was a member of Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Ogden, member of AHEPA of Ogden, a choir member and member of Weber State Wildcat Club. He loved to fish, and spend time with his family camping at Flaming Gorge, getting together on all holidays and going to Weber State football and basketball games.
Tom is survived by his wife, Maria; son, Jim (Joy) Soter; daughters, Angie (Jim) Soderquist; Kris (Mike) Guischer and Jo (Ed) Lindquist; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way; dog, “Mulan” who watched over him always and his cat, “Misha”.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 674 42nd St., Ogden with Fr. Mario Giannopoulos officiating. Friends may visit family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Trisagion Service at 7:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
