Trilva Riggs Poppell

October 11, 1926 ~ August 25, 2016

Trilva Riggs Poppell, 89, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2016.  She was born in Benson, Utah, on October 11, 1926, the daughter of Louis Bird and Lucy Sophia Thompson Riggs.

She married Leon “Al” Carlos Poppell on November 11, 1951 in Benson, Utah.  They enjoyed 51 years together before Al passed away on May 31, 2003.

Trilva worked in fine shoe retail for many years.  She was an active woman – she golfed four days a week, enjoyed bowling and skiing, and was an accomplished gardener.  Trilva kept a meticulous home – it was her palace.  She was also an avid reader, a great cook, and will be remembered for being sassy, feisty or headstrong, depending on the day.  Having grown up on a farm, she had a tremendous work ethic and had learned very well the value of a dollar from her father.  If “Nana” was going somewhere, for over 50 years it was in a Volkswagen Bug, so we’re pretty sure she’s speeding around in Heaven in one right now.  She was truly a wonderful example, always looking her best, and loving and caring for her family.

Trilva is survived by her three daughters, Paula Bowman, Holly Hansen, and Summer (Shayne) Loewenstein; ten grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren with one on the way, four great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gerald Riggs, WA.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Al; sister, “Doddie” Dolores Lamont; brother, Buster Riggs; and one grandchild, Lancer Alan Loewenstein.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.  Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
