Tyler H. Rogers 1923 - 2008 Tyler died peacefully at his home, on Saturday, March 22, 2008, surrounded by his family, of complications from lung cancer. Tyler Hogan Rogers was born in Lindon, Utah on July 30, 1923. He met and married the love of his life, Joyce Young, in 1941. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1942. Tyler was a WWII veteran, having served in the South Pacific. He received an honorable discharge and returned to Lindon where he and Joyce continued their life together. He worked for Geneva Steel and Brigham Young University, where he was the Director of the Medical Instrumentation Laboratories. After from retiring from BYU, he and Joyce loved to spend the Winters in Quartzite, Arizona where they had many friends and enjoyed many happy hours pursuing hobbies and enjoying the sunshine. Tyler was known far and wide for his love of rocks. He enjoyed many rock hunting trips and enjoyed crafting fine jewelry. Many friends and family have enjoyed his “rock” jewelry. In 1987, they moved from Lindon, to Southern Utah, where they settled in Hurricane. Tyler and Joyce were married for 63 years. Tyler lost Joyce after a courageous battle with cancer in 2004. In 2005, Tyler moved to Layton, Utah, where he has made many new friends and enjoyed many activities. He continued his love of rock jewelry, teaching friends and family the tricks of the trade. Tyler had a deep love of people, doing community service and served as the Mayor of Lindon City. Tyler had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served faithfully in many positions including Bishop of the Lindon 1st Ward. His greatest love was serving as the Gospel Doctrine Teacher at the Quartzite Branch for 20 years. Tyler is survived by his six children, Michael, Kalispell, WY; B. Kay (Geri), Lindon; Shauna (Tom) Garfield, Layton; Brian (Lynn), Bountiful; Melvin (Melody), Hurricane; and Sandra (Claire) Call, Orem; 24 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; brother Kennett, Bountiful; and sister Doris Jean, Tacoma, WA. Tyler was a wonderful father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed. His posterity is celebrating his reunion with Joyce and look forward to seeing them again. We will pay respects to Tyler at 2 funerals. The first will be on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Layton Oak Forest Ward, 2250 E. 2300 N. The second will be held on Thursday, March 27, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lindon Chapel, 50 North Main, Lindon, Utah. Although there will be no public viewing per Tyler’s Request, there will be a visitation both in Layton and Lindon from 9:45 to 10:45 prior to the services Interment, Timpanogos Cemetery, Orem, Utah.
