LAYTON- Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-great grandmother Ume Shiba Miya, 94, passed away on September 15, 2012.

Ume was born on March 1, 1918 in Paul, Idaho to Ushizo and Kiku Hayakawa Shiba. She married Minoru Miya on September 29, 1944 and together they had four children. This month marks 68 years of marriage for Ume and Minoru. She spent most of her life working alongside of her husband on the farm as well as being a mother and homemaker.

She was a member of the Ogden Japanese Christian Church and also enjoyed cooking and sewing.

Ume is survived by her loving husband, sons Dennis (Janet) Miya of Seattle, WA, Wayne Miya of Portland, OR, and Gerald (Cyndee) Miya of Layton, UT; daughter Cheryl (Harley) Aoki of San Ramon, CA; sister Tome Ujiiye of Dublin, CA; six grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Heiju, Kay, and Yosh; and sisters Kiyoko, Tatsu, Kikuyo, and Shigeko.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
